Surah Tehreem: Full Arabic Text, Translation, and Fazilat

Surah Tehreem is the 66th chapter of the Holy Quran. It is a Madani Surah, meaning it was revealed in Madinah. The Surah contains 12 verses and is located in the 28th Juz of the Quran. Tehreem Meaning in Arabic is “Al-Tahrim” which refers to prohibition or forbiddance.

Bismillah

Arabic: بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration: Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem

English Meaning: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Urdu Translation: شروع کرتا ہوں اللہ تعالیٰ کے نام سے جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم والا ہے

Hindi Transliteration: बिस्मिल्लाहि र्रहमानि र्रहीम

Ayah 1

Arabic: يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَآ أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ لَكَۖ تَبۡتَغِي مَرۡضَاتَ أَزۡوَٰجِكَۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ

Transliteration: Yaaa ayyuhan nabiyyu lima tuharrimu maaa ahallal laahu laka tabtaghee mardaata azwaajik; wallaahu ghafoorur raheem

English Translation: O Prophet, why do you prohibit yourself from what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Urdu Translation: اے نبی! جس چیز کو اللہ نے آپ کے لیے حلال کر دیا ہے اسے آپ کیوں حرام کرتے ہیں؟ آپ اپنی بیویوں کی رضامندی حاصل کرنا چاہتے ہیں اور اللہ بخشنے والا رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

Hindi Transliteration: या अय्युहन नबिय्यु लिमा तुहर्रिमु मा अहल्लल्लाहु लका तब्तगी मर्ज़ाता अज़्वाजिक वल्लाहु गफ़ूरुर्रहीम

Ayah 2

Arabic: قَدۡ فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ تَحِلَّةَ أَيۡمَٰنِكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ مَوۡلَىٰكُمۡۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ

Transliteration: Qad faradal laahu lakum tahillata aymaanikum; wallaahu mawlaakum wa huwal aleemul hakeem

English Translation: Allah has already ordained for you the dissolution of your oaths. And Allah is your Protector, and He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

Urdu Translation: تحقیق کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے تمہارے لیے قسموں کو کھول ڈالنا مقرر کر دیا ہے اور اللہ تمہارا کارساز ہے اور وہی علم والا، حکمت والا ہے۔

Hindi Transliteration: क़द फ़रज़ल्लाहु लकुम तहिल्लता अयमानिकुम वल्लाहु मौलाकुम व हुवल अलीमुल हकीम

Ayah 3

Arabic: وَإِذۡ أَسَرَّ ٱلنَّبِيُّ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضِ أَزۡوَٰجِهِۦ حَدِيثٗا فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَتۡ بِهِۦ وَأَظۡهَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِ عَرَّفَ بَعۡضَهُۥ وَأَعۡرَضَ عَنۢ بَعۡضٖۖ فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَهَا بِهِۦ قَالَتۡ مَنۡ أَنۢبَأَكَ هَٰذَاۖ قَالَ نَبَّأَنِيَ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٱلۡخَبِيرُ

Transliteration: Wa iz asarran nabiyyu ilaa badi azwaajihee hadeesan falammaa nabba at bihee wa azharahul laahu alaihee arrafa badahoo wa arada am badin falammaa nabba ahaa bihee qaalat man amba aka haaza qaala nabba aniyal aleemul khabeer

English Translation: When the Prophet confided a statement to one of his wives and when she disclosed it, Allah made this known to him. He made known part of it and passed over a part. When he told her of it, she said, “Who informed you of this?” He said, “I was informed by the All-Knowing, the All-Aware.”

Urdu Translation: اور یاد کر جب نبی نے اپنی بعض بیویوں سے ایک پوشیدہ بات کہی، پس جب اس نے اس بات کی خبر کر دی اور اللہ نے اپنے نبی کو اس پر آگاہ کر دیا تو نبی نے تھوڑی سی بات تو بتا دی اور تھوڑی سی ٹال گئے۔

Hindi Transliteration: व इज़ असर्रन नबिय्यु इला बअज़ि अज़्वाजिही हदीसन फ़लम्मा नब्बअत बिही व अज़्हरहुल्लाहु अलयहि अर्रफ़ बअज़हू व अअ्रज़ अन बअज़िन फ़लम्मा नब्बअहा बिही क़ालत मन अन्बअका हाज़ा क़ाल नब्बअनियल अलीमुल ख़बीर

Ayah 4

Arabic: إِن تَتُوبَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ صَغَتۡ قُلُوبُكُمَاۖ وَإِن تَظَٰهَرَا عَلَيۡهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ مَوۡلَىٰهُ وَجِبۡرِيلُ وَصَٰلِحُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَۖ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ ظَهِيرٌ

Transliteration: In tatoobaaa ilal laahi faqad saghat quloobukumaa wa in tazaaharaa alaihee fa innal laaha huwa mawlaahu wa jibreelu wa saalihul mumineen; wal malaaikatu badazaalika zaheer

English Translation: If you two repent to Allah, your hearts have indeed deviated. But if you collaborate against him, then Allah is his Protector, and so are Jibreel and the righteous believers, and the angels after that are his helpers.

Urdu Translation: اگر تم دونوں اللہ کے سامنے توبہ کر لو تو بہت بہتر ہے۔ یقیناً تمہارے دل جھک پڑے ہیں اور اگر تم نبی کے خلاف ایک دوسرے کی مدد کرو گی تو یقیناً اس کا کارساز اللہ ہے اور جبریل ہیں اور نیک اہل ایمان اور فرشتے بھی مدد کرنے والے ہیں۔

Hindi Transliteration: इन ततूबा इलल्लाहि फ़क़द सग़त क़ुलूबुकुमा व इन तज़ाहरा अलयहि फ़इन्नल्लाह हुव मौलाहु व जिब्रीलु व सालिहुल मुअ्मिनीन वल मलाइकतु बअ्द ज़ालिक ज़हीर

Ayah 5

Arabic: عَسَىٰ رَبُّهُۥٓ إِن طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَن يُبۡدِلَهُۥٓ أَزۡوَٰجًا خَيۡرٗا مِّنكُنَّ مُسۡلِمَٰتٖ مُّؤۡمِنَٰتٖ قَٰنِتَٰتٖ تَـٰٓئِبَٰتٍ عَٰبِدَٰتٖ سَـٰٓئِحَٰتٖ ثَيِّبَٰتٖ وَأَبۡكَارٗا

Transliteration: Asaa rabbuhooo in tallaqakunna anyubdilahooo azwaajan khairam minkunna muslimaatim muminaatin qaanitaatin taaibaatin aabilaatin saaihaatin saiyibaatinw wa abkaaraa

English Translation: Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you all, would give him in exchange wives better than you, submitting to Allah, believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, fasting, previously married and virgins.

Urdu Translation: اگر وہ آپ کو طلاق دے دیں تو بہت جلد انہیں ان کا رب تم سے بہتر بیویاں عنایت فرمائے گا جو اسلام والیاں، ایمان والیاں، اللہ کے حضور جھکنے والیاں، توبہ کرنے والیاں، عبادت بجا لانے والیاں اور روزے رکھنے والیاں ہوں گی۔

Hindi Transliteration: असा रब्बुहू इन तल्लक़कुन्न अय्युब्दिलहू अज़्वाजन ख़यरम मिन्कुन्न मुस्लिमातिम मुअ्मिनातिन क़ानितातिन ताइबातिन आबिदातिन साइहातिन सय्यिबातिव व अब्कारा

Ayah 6

Arabic: يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ قُوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَأَهۡلِيكُمۡ نَارٗا وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلۡحِجَارَةُ عَلَيۡهَا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌ غِلَاظٞ شِدَادٞ لَّا يَعۡصُونَ ٱللَّهَ مَآ أَمَرَهُمۡ وَيَفۡعَلُونَ مَا يُؤۡمَرُونَ

Transliteration: Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo qooo anfusakum wa ahleekum naaranw waqooduhan naasu wal hijaaratu alaihaa malaaikatu ghilaazun shidaadul laa yasoonan laaha maa amarahum wa yafaloona maa yumaron

English Translation: O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are appointed angels who are stern and severe. They never disobey Allah in what He commands them, and they do what they are commanded.

Urdu Translation: اے ایمان والو! تم اپنے آپ کو اور اپنے گھر والوں کو اس آگ سے بچاؤ جس کا ایندھن انسان ہیں اور پتھر، جس پر سخت دل مضبوط فرشتے مقرر ہیں جنہیں جو حکم اللہ دیتا ہے اس کی نافرمانی نہیں کرتے بلکہ جو حکم دیا جائے بجا لاتے ہیں۔

Hindi Transliteration: या अय्युहल्लज़ीन आमनू क़ू अन्फ़ुसकुम व अहलीकुम नारन व क़ूदुहन्नासु वल हिजारतु अलयहा मलाइकतुन ग़िलाज़ुन शिदादुल्ला यअ्सूनल्लाह मा अमरहुम व यफ़्अलून मा युअ्मरून

Ayah 7

Arabic: يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَا تَعۡتَذِرُواْ ٱلۡيَوۡمَۖ إِنَّمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ

Transliteration: Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena kafaroo la tatazirul yawma innamaa tujzawna maa kuntum tamaloon

English Translation: O you who have disbelieved, make no excuses this Day. You will only be recompensed for what you used to do.

Urdu Translation: اے کافرو! آج تم عذر و بہانہ مت کرو۔ تمہیں صرف تمہارے کرتوت کا بدلہ دیا جا رہا ہے۔

Hindi Transliteration: या अय्युहल्लज़ीन कफ़रू ला तअ्तज़िरुल यौम इन्नमा तुज्ज़वना मा कुन्तुम तअ्मलून

Ayah 8

Arabic: يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ تُوبُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوۡبَةٗ نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ وَيُدۡخِلَكُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ

Transliteration: Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo toobooo ilal laahi tawbatan nasoohan asaa rabbukum any-yukaffira ankum sayyiaatikum wa yudkhilakum jannaatin tajree min tahtihal anhaaru

English Translation: O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow.

Urdu Translation: اے ایمان والو! تم اللہ کے سامنے سچی خالص توبہ کرو۔ قریب ہے کہ تمہارا رب تمہارے گناہ دور کر دے اور تمہیں ایسی جنتوں میں داخل کرے جن کے نیچے نہریں جاری ہیں۔

Hindi Transliteration: या अय्युहल्लज़ीन आमनू तूबू इलल्लाहि तौबतन नसूहा असा रब्बुकुम अय्युकफ़्फ़िर अन्कुम सय्यिआतिकुम व युद्ख़िलकुम जन्नातिन तज्री मिन तह्तिहल अन्हार

Ayah 9

Arabic: يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ جَٰهِدِ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱغۡلُظۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ

Transliteration: Yaaa ayyuhan nabiyyu jaahidil kuffaara walmunaa-fiqeena waghluz alaihim; wa mawaahum jahannamu wa bisal maseer

English Translation: O Prophet, strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be firm with them. Their abode is Hell, and it is a wretched destination.

Urdu Translation: اے نبی! کافروں اور منافقوں سے جہاد کرو اور ان پر سختی کرو، ان کا ٹھکانا جہنم ہے اور وہ بہت بری جگہ ہے۔

Hindi Transliteration: या अय्युहन्नबिय्यु जाहिदिल कुफ़्फ़ार वल्मुनाफ़िक़ीन वग़्लुज़ अलयहिम व मअ्वाहुम जहन्नमु व बिअ्सल मसीर

Ayah 10

Arabic: ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلٗا لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ٱمۡرَأَتَ نُوحٖ وَٱمۡرَأَتَ لُوطٖۖ كَانَتَا تَحۡتَ عَبۡدَيۡنِ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا صَٰلِحَيۡنِ فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمۡ يُغۡنِيَا عَنۡهُمَا مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡـٔٗا وَقِيلَ ٱدۡخُلَا ٱلنَّارَ مَعَ ٱلدَّـٰخِلِينَ

Transliteration: Darabal laahu masalal lillazeena kafarumra ata Noohinw wamra ata Loot, kaanataa tahta abdaini min ibaadinaa saalihaini fakhaanataahumaa falam yughniyaa anhumaa minal laahi shayan wa qeelad khulan naara mad Daakhileen

English Translation: Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them. Those prophets could not help them against Allah at all, and it was said, “Enter the Fire with those who enter.”

Urdu Translation: اللہ تعالیٰ نے کافروں کے لیے نوح کی اور لوط کی بیوی کی مثال بیان فرمائی۔ یہ دونوں ہمارے نیک بندوں کے گھر میں تھیں۔ پھر انہوں نے ان کی خیانت کی پس وہ دونوں نیک بندے ان سے اللہ کا کوئی عذاب نہ روک سکے اور حکم دے دیا گیا کہ دوزخ میں جانے والوں کے ساتھ تم دونوں بھی چلی جاؤ۔

Hindi Transliteration: ज़रबल्लाहु मसलल लिल्लज़ीन कफ़रुम्रअत नूहिव वम्रअत लूतिन कानता तह्त अब्दयनि मिन इबादिना सालिहयनि फ़ख़ानताहुमा फ़लम युग़्निया अन्हुमा मिनल्लाहि शयअन व क़ीलद् ख़ुलन्नार मअद् दाख़िलीन

Ayah 11

Arabic: وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلٗا لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱمۡرَأَتَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِذۡ قَالَتۡ رَبِّ ٱبۡنِ لِي عِندَكَ بَيۡتٗا فِي ٱلۡجَنَّةِ وَنَجِّنِي مِن فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَعَمَلِهِۦ وَنَجِّنِي مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Transliteration: Wa darabal laahu masalal lillezeena aamanumra ata Firawn; iz qaalat rabbi ibni lee indaka baitan fil jannati wa najjinee min Firawnna wa amalihee wa najjinee minal qawmiz zaalimeen

English Translation: And Allah presents an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, “My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people.”

Urdu Translation: اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے ایمان والوں کے لیے فرعون کی بیوی کی مثال بیان فرمائی جبکہ اس نے دعا کی کہ اے میرے رب! میرے لیے اپنے پاس جنت میں مکان بنا اور مجھے فرعون سے اور اس کے عمل سے بچا اور مجھے ظالم لوگوں سے خلاصی دے۔

Hindi Transliteration: व ज़रबल्लाहु मसलल लिल्लज़ीन आमनुम्रअत फ़िर्अवन इज़ क़ालत रब्बि इब्नि ली इन्दका बयतन फ़िल जन्नति व नज्जिनी मिन फ़िर्अवन व अमलिही व नज्जिनी मिनल क़ौमिज़ ज़ालिमीन

Ayah 12

Arabic: وَمَرۡيَمَ ٱبۡنَتَ عِمۡرَٰنَ ٱلَّتِيٓ أَحۡصَنَتۡ فَرۡجَهَا فَنَفَخۡنَا فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِنَا وَصَدَّقَتۡ بِكَلِمَٰتِ رَبِّهَا وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَكَانَتۡ مِنَ ٱلۡقَٰنِتِينَ

Transliteration: Wa Maryamab nata Imraanal lateee ahsanat farjahaa fanafakhnaa feehee mir roohinaa wa saddaqat bi kalimaati Rabbihaa wa Kutubihee wakaanat minal qaaniteen

English Translation: And the example of Mary, the daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her from Our spirit. She believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.

Urdu Translation: اور مثال بیان فرمائی مریم بنت عمران کی جس نے اپنے ناموس کی حفاظت کی پھر ہم نے اپنی طرف سے اس میں جان پھونک دی اور مریم نے اپنے رب کی باتوں اور اس کی کتابوں کی تصدیق کی اور عبادت گزاروں میں سے تھی۔

Hindi Transliteration: व मर्यमब्नत इम्रानल्लती अह्सनत फ़र्जहा फ़नफ़ख़्ना फ़ीहि मिर्रूहिना व सद्दक़त बिकलिमाति रब्बिहा व कुतुबिही व कानत मिनल क़ानितीन

Surah Tehreem Ki Fazilat (Importance and Significance)

Surah Tehreem holds a special place in the Quran because it addresses matters of the heart, the household, and sincere repentance. Its lessons are timeless and carry deep spiritual weight for every believer.
